The manager of Appleby Care Home in North Shields, Clare Leonard, has achieved a finalist place in the coveted ‘Registered Manager of the Year’ category at the Leaders in Care awards.
The national awards, held in Birmingham on 11th October, celebrate excellence and innovation in care as well as the individuals who drive positive outcomes for their residents.
Clare Leonard is joined by four other nominees on the award shortlist for the North of England region.
Recently, Clare became the first care home manager in England to achieve the coveted NIHR Greenshoots Award.
The scheme provides two years’ worth of funding to help applicants achieve their dream of becoming a principal investigator. Up to £9,000 is available for applicants to run research projects in their care home over the course of two years.
These research projects will help to shape the future of social care, putting Appleby Care Home at the forefront of innovation in the sector. The funding will also enable more training for the home’s nurses and provide extra support for new innovations within the service.
Tony Stein, CEO of Larchwood Care said: “Clare is a driven and caring individual who ensures that Appleby provides a vital service to the North Shields community. Her warm and professional approach delivers a safe environment where residents feel secure, well looked after and truly at home.
“With a focus on training and development, Clare has built a strong team at Appleby. This has only helped reinforce its reputation in the area. It’s wonderful to see Clare’s passion for excellent care recognised in this way.”
Clare Leonard said: “I really am humbled to have been nominated for this award, not to mention thrilled! We have achieved some great things at Appleby in the last few years because we are a great team.
“This recognition is for all of our Appleby Angels! For providing the best care and support for our residents every single day.”
