The Winners Are in for the 2022 Larchwood Scarecrow Competition

With autumn upon us, our residents and teams at Larchwood Care Homes across the country have been busy perfecting their entries for our second annual scarecrow competition.

Harvest festival has a fond place in many of our residents’ hearts, with childhood memories of scarecrows often shared during discussions about this time of year.

Last year, our homes had so much fun designing and building their straw-stuffed creations, that we just had to bring the competition back for 2022.

With a fish and chip supper for the winning home at stake, we were inundated with brilliant entries, leading to some very tricky decisions for our judges!

First Place

This time the top prize went to Lily House in Ely, Cambridgeshire. The home’s remembrance-themed display, complete with scarecrows in uniforms of the armed forces captured the hearts of this year’s judges. To coincide with the launch of this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, the display was titled “We Will Remember.”

Joanne Swift, the activities coordinator at Lily House, said: “We chose this theme because we have several residents past and present with a military connection. All three services are represented alongside our Lily House poppy collector.

“A big shout out to our manager Kerry who has spent any spare time she has knitting all the fabulous poppies with one of our residents. It was 58 at the last count!”

The residents and team at the home will be enjoying fish and chips on us soon. Congratulations Lily House!

Second and Third

With a wonderful local connection and some brilliantly crafted faces, the second-place trophy goes to Hillcrest Care Home in Norwich. The Hillcrest family were keen to make sure that Lily-Daisy and Sonny were well-dressed and match-fit for a big game at Norwich City.

Halloween was the theme for the Ericht View crew at Muirton House Care Home in Blairgowrie. Neatly tying up harvest festival, Halloween and bonfire night in one display, the home’s spooky guy took the third-place trophy in this year’s competition.

A huge well done to all of our homes for this year’s efforts. We know you’ll have had fun sharing autumn memories and making new ones. Bring on 2023’s scarecrow competition!
